E. 6:1-11 SABBATH CONTROVERSY
1. 6:1-5 PRINCIPLES FOR THE SABBATH
a. 6:1 DISCIPLES AND THE SABBATH

Now it came to pass that he was on a sabbath going through grainfields;

b. 6:2 But certain of the Pharisees said, Why do you what is not lawful on the sabbaths?

c. 6:3-4 DAVID AND THE SABBATH

which it is not lawful to eat save for the priests alone?

2. 6:6-11 SABBATH CONTROVERSY WITH HEALING LESSONS
a. 6:6 A SABBATH CHALLENGE

And it came to pass on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught:

and a man was there, and his :right :hand was withered.
b. 6:7 CHALLENGE WATCHED BY PHARISEES

And the scribes and the Pharisees were watching him,

whether he would cure on the sabbath: that they might find howto accuse him.
c. 6:8a JESUS ACCEPTS THE CHALLENGE

e. 6:9. JESUS CHALLENGES PURPOSE OF THE SABBATH

And :Jesus said unto them, I ask you whether it is lawful on the sabbath

to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

VI. 6:12-8:56 PRINCIPLES OF THE KINGDOM
A. 6:12-19 CHOOSING OF THE TWELVE TO MULTIPLY MINISTRY
a. 6:12 JESUS PRAYS ALL NIGHT

b. 6:13-18 THE APOSTLES CHOSEN - AND JESUS HEALS THE MULTITUDES

And when it was day, he called his :disciples;

who came to hear him, and to be healed of their :sicknesses;

18and those oppressed by unclean spirits were cured.
c. 6:19 THE ANALOGY BETWEEN BODILY AND SPIRITUAL CURES
kai pas ho OCHlos eZEtoun HAPtes-thai [680] auTOU,
And the whole crowd were seeking to touch him,
HOti DUna-mis par' auTOU eXERche-to [1831], kai iA-to [2390] PANtas.
for power came forth from him, and healed all.
B. 6:20-23 BEATITUDES
a. 6:20 BEATITUDE FOR THE POOR
Kai auTOS ePAras tous oph-thalMOUS auTOU eis tous ma-theTAS auTOU, Ele-gen,
And HE lifted up his :eyes on his :disciples, and said,
MaKAri-oi [3107] hoi ptoCHOI [4434]: HOti hu-meTEra esTIN he ba-siLEIa [932] tou TheOU.
Blessed you :poor: for yours is the kingdom of :God.
b. 6:21a Blessed youthat hunger now: for you shall be filled.

c. 6:21b Blessed youthat weep now: for you shall laugh.

d. 6:22 BEATITUDE FOR THE PERSECUTED

Blessed are you, when :men shall hate you,
kai HOtan a-phoRIso-sin [873] huMAS kai o-neiDIso-sin [3679],
and when they shall ostracize you and reproach,

and cast out your :name as evil, for the Son of :man's sake.
e. 6:23 JOY IN PERSECUTION
CHAre-te en eKEIne te heMEra, kai skirTEsa-te: iDOU gar, ho misTHOS huMON poLUS en to ou-raNO;
Rejoice in that :day, and leap: for lo, your reward is great in :heaven;
kaTA ta auTA gar ePOIoun tois proPHEtais hoi paTEres auTON.
for in the same manner did their :fathers to the prophets.
NOTE: 6:1-5 - Look at the accurate and clear explanation and teaching of Jesus. But when false leaders are set on their owntraditions, by which they make void the Word of God - such truth makes noimpression upon them. You can lead a horse to water - but you can'tmake him drink!
6:6-11 - The milk of human kindness was dried up in the veins of the Pharisees. Their human tradition took precedence over all human need! And whatwill their fate be at the point of death? A rudeawakening - but too late the light of eternal truth! During life, all they wanted to do was shut Jesus up - even though He was the Son of God, the Promised Messiah, the One who came as Son of :man in the Name of Jehovah!
6:12-19 - It is interesting to note here that Jesus chose from amongst His hundreds and thousands of disciples - but 12 to be with Him, whom He also named apostles. It is easy to miss the significance of this verse, even from among scholars. And these 12 were special apostles, in that they were witnesses of Jesus' 3 years of ministry, His death, His Resurrection and His Ascension. Judas was replaced by Matthias, who fulfilled the above requirements.
Later 12 other apostles are mentioned in the NT, but they did not fulfill these special requirements of the original 12. Barnabas and Saul in Acts 13:13 were noted among prophets and teachers in the church of Antioch. But when they returned from their first missionary journey, they returned as Paul and Barnabas, apostles. Paul of course had seenthe resurrected Christ in clear vision, and for 3 years in the Arabian desert received direct revelation from Christ concerning the 27 “mysteries” of the NT. Because of this, Peter, apostle of the circumcision, recognized Paul, apostle to the Gentiles, as one endowed with Kingdom revelation and understanding superior to any of the 12.
Notice 6:19 - power(DUna-mis) came forth from Jesus' body when touched, that brought healing and deliverance from demons for as many as touched. Later, Peter's shadow did the same thing; and handkerchiefs or cloths taken from Paul's body did the same thing.
6:20-23 - Compare the list of Beatitudes here in Luke with Matthew's list in 5:1-12. There are fewer listed here, but it is relevant what islisted. Again, there is nocontradiction in the various Gospel recordings. It is just the normal divergences that would be recorded by different witnesses. Those who search for contradictions, are like the nit-picking Pharisees who are dedicated to protect their human traditions. They will notbe changed. Cease trying. Rather, go to the poor and lost - many of them willhear us gladly. And we must remember - God by His foreknowledge knows all who are open to His call. We do not. So it behooves us like good salesmen - to present Jesus to everycreature. There is this hidden selection by foreknowledge of God - who willrespond. The angels of heaven rejoice over each one of these we present with the Good News of God's Kingdom in Jesus - who willrespond. J.A.W.
